Universities with the Least Accessible Professors
Universities with the Least Accessible Professors by: Naomi Nishihara on October 29, 2014 | 0 Comments Comments 643 Views October 29, 2014In college lecture halls, lessons move quickly and usually impersonally. Every student knows who their professor is, but in most cases professors will only know a handful of their studentsââ¬â¢ names. Some schools are better than others of course. Itââ¬â¢s easy to imagine that at a small liberal arts school, a philosophy professor with 10 students will know every one of them and will frequently instruct and entertain them during office hours. Meanwhile, at a public research institution with lecture halls that seat 500, the vast majority of students may pass in and out of a classroom without their teacher ever making eye-contact. These students will do their assignments, receive their grades, and probably never ask for a rec letter.Every year the Princeton Review ranks the top 20 schools with the least accessible professors. The results ar e based on studentsââ¬â¢ answers to the survey question ââ¬Å"How accessible are your instructors outside the classroom?â⬠As might seem predictable, of the 45 schools that have made the list in the past six years, 34 are public universities. Some of this, of course, can be explained simply in class size. à The rest may be due to the natures of the institutions professors at public universities may prioritize their research, while research may be a secondary concern to professors at small liberal arts schools, allowing them more time for their students. Here are the schools with the Least Accessible Professors:The Least Accessible Professors Rankings From 2015 to 2010.tftable {font-size:12px;color:#333333;width:100%;border-width: 1px;border-color: #729ea5;border-collapse: collapse;} .tftable th {font-size:12px;background-color:#acc8cc;border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #729ea5;text-align:left;} .tftable tr {background-color:#d4e3e5;} .tftable t d {font-size:12px;border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #729ea5;} .tftable tr:hover {background-color:#ffffff;}2015 Rank School2015 Rank2014 Rank2013 Rank2012 Rank2011 Rank2010 Rankà McGill Universityà 1à 3à 1à 11à 14à 20à United States Merchant Marine Academyà 2à 2à 2à 1à 7à 11à New Jersey Institute of Technologyà 3à 1à 3à 2à 8à 12à Howard Universityà 4à 6à 13à 9à 6à 8à Hampton Universityà 5à 4à 14à NRà NRà NRà University of Hawaii Manoaà 6à 7à NRà NRà NRà NRà Portland State Universityà 7à 8à 16à NRà NRà NRà Trinity College Dublinà 8à 5à NRà NRà NRà NRà St. Johns University (NY)à 9à 12à 9à 5à NRà NRà University of California Los Angelesà 10à 13à 15à NRà 16à NRà University of California San Diegoà 11à 14à NRà NRà NRà NRà State University of New York Stony Brook Universityà 12à 19à 20à 16à 9à NRà University of Massachusetts Amherstà 13à NRà NRà NRà 12à 13à University of California Berkeleyà 14à 15à NRà NRà NRà NRà Manhattanville Collegeà 15à NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà Stevens Institute of Technologyà 16à 11à 8à 10à 15à 6à Marywood Universityà 17à 16à NRà NRà NRà NRà City University of New York Queens Collegeà 18à NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà Drexel Universityà 19à 9à NRà NRà 13à 15à University of Minnesota Twin Citiesà 20à 17à NRà NRà NRà NRà City University of New York Baruch Collegeà NRà 10à NRà NRà NRà NRà California State University Stanislausà NRà 18à NRà NRà NRà NRà University of Kentuckyà NRà 20à 4à 18à 3à 7à Georgia Institute of Technologyà NRà NRà 5à 3à 4à 2à University of Maineà NRà NRà 6à 15à NRà NRà University of South Floridaà NRà NRà 7à 17à NRà NRà Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey New Brunswickà NRà NRà 10à 7à 2à 4à Temple Universityà NRà NRà 11à 12à NRà NRà Sonoma State Universityà NRà NRà 12à 8à 18à NRà University of Illinois at Urbana Champaignà NRà NRà 17à NRà NRà NRà Illinois Institute of Technologyà NRà NRà 18à 6à 10à 1à Michigan State Universityà NRà NRà 19à NRà NRà NRà University of Torontoà NRà NRà NRà 4à 1à 3à The University of North Carolina at Greensboroà NRà NRà NRà 13à NRà NRà Case Western Reserve Universityà NRà NRà NRà 14à NRà NRà The University of South Dakotaà NRà NRà NRà 19à NRà NRà Tuskegee Universityà NRà NRà NRà 20à 5à 5à Spelman Collegeà NRà NRà NRà NRà 11à 17à Auburn Universityà NRà NRà NRà NRà 17à 9à University of North Dakotaà NRà NRà NRà NRà 19à NRà University of Georgiaà NRà NRà NRà NRà 20à 10à Univ ersity of Rhode Islandà NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà 14à State University of New York at Albanyà NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà 16à University of California Riversideà NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà 18à University of Arizonaà NRà NRà NRà NRà NRà 19Source: The Princeton Review Page 1 of 11
